Home / Maidenhead / Ye Olde Bell Ye Olde Bell
Ye Olde Bell Inn in Hurley near Maidenhead has always welcomed travellers through its doors. Some even say that it has been doing so since 1135. Hospitality has been the mark of this building for so long it is as much a part of the architecture as the 12th century beams themselves. Ye Olde Bell has recently enjoyed the extensive attentions of one of Britain?ÇÖs most celebrated designers, Ilse Crawford. Crawford?ÇÖs programme of renovation at Ye Olde Bell Inn has been as much about celebrating the forgotten traditions of the English country inn as it has been about creating a beautiful new interior for a sophisticated contemporary traveller. A large informal restaurant serves a locally sourced and seasonal menu and a genial public bar caters for everyone with open spaces and cosy corners. The interiors of the restaurants, private function rooms and bar have been redesigned by Crawford in a manner that is entirely sympathetic to the original structure. Features like the ancient red tiled floor and giant fireplace have been restored. Charming additions that range from tea cosies knitted by the local Women?ÇÖs Institute to beautifully crafted Belgian benches and commissioned furniture from local craftsmen have been added. All bedrooms are en suite and tastefully decorated. The M40 and M4 are with easy access. The River Thames is a short walk away and Henley on Thames a short drive.
